I went with the Thrustmaster T. Flight Hotas X and it doesnt have great support in BF3, The Throttle only works when on the ground, but once in the air it will only allow full speed, kind of frustrating. It also has some major dead zone issues, that I tried to get fixed by using the Thrustmaster calibration tool, but to no avail. Would be nice to fly with a full stick and throttle combo, my thought was that I would have superior control over ground targets and airbraking during dogfights, However, without a functional throttle the whole thing is useless, so Its back to the Keyboard and Arrow keys, Which can be great for some things but trying to tap arrow keys to line up a shot on far away targets is pretty difficult. Most of the really successful pilots are using Mouse and keybaord, but I for one cannot wrap my brain around it. Oh well, Im over 600 jet kills so far but ive learned to get really good with the seekers, enemy helos are usually only killable with the main cannon, seekers will usually not work especially when the pilot has a gunner and both are equipped with ecm or flares. However flying in real close with a lock on and firing missles will usually hit anyway because theres not enough distance for the flares to be detected. As many tricks as I have learned with seekers theres still no match against good control over your main cannon, which like I said the mouse is probably your best bet for that unless you can get a really nice joystick that is super sensitive.
